Officers investigating a vehicle fire and the death of a dog in Petersfield are looking to identify two men who may be able to assist with their investigation. We received a report at around 12:15am on Monday 22 June, that a vehicle was on fire in the McDonalds car park on Winchester Road in Petersfield. The Fire Service attended, and unfortunately a dog was found deceased in the vehicle. An investigation was launched to establish the full circumstances, and a 28-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested on suspicion of arson, causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and no insurance. He has been bailed with conditions until 22 September whilst enquiries continue. As part of our enquiries, officers have been reviewing CCTV footage and are keen to speak to two members of the public who were seen in the area at the time and appear to have attempted to gain entry to the vehicle to try to help the dog. We appreciate that these are not the clearest images, but if this is you, or if you have any information which could assist our investigation, please report to us by calling 101 and quoting reference number 44260294619, or submit information online here: https://www.hampshire.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/cor/tell-us-about-existing-case-report/ Alternatively, you can report any information anonymously by calling independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, or by going to their website: https://crimestoppers-uk.org/
